Freiraum Multifunctual Bar

Freiraum Multifunctual Bar is an innovative architectural interior design masterpiece that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of form and function in contemporary hospitality spaces. This monumental sculptural installation, designed by Christoph Piffer, represents a groundbreaking achievement in wooden architectural elements, constructed entirely from 16,000 oak cubes meticulously glued together and precision-milled into a fluid, wave-like form that extends across 42 meters in length, with dimensions of 15 meters width, 8 meters depth, and 5.5 meters height. The design's distinctive undulating form seamlessly integrates multiple functionalities, including a bar counter, built-in niche seating, and an architectural bridge connecting two floors, while incorporating innovative barrier-free gateway mechanisms that emerge from and recede into the floor without disrupting the overall aesthetic continuity. This remarkable structure, weighing 25 tons, demonstrates exceptional technical prowess in addressing the natural properties of wood, particularly in managing expansion and contraction through specialized structural solutions. The installation is complemented by approximately ninety square meters of glass paneling, offering panoramic views of the Austrian Alps, while strategically positioned lighting elements enhance the interplay between the natural oak material and the surrounding space. The project, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, represents a significant advancement in sustainable luxury design, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary architectural innovation to create an immersive hospitality environment that serves both as a functional space and an artistic landmark.
