This sophisticated product design, created by designer Alfie Shao, reimagines the four traditional implements - brush, ink, paper, and ink stone - as contemporary technological equivalents: fountain pens and light pens, mobile power banks, file-sending flash drives, and business card stands, respectively. The design employs a thoughtful combination of cement foundations and metallic elements, utilizing digital technology to incorporate traditional mortise and tenon joinery principles. The aesthetic approach draws inspiration from traditional Chinese architectural elements, particularly in its cross-sectional modeling that evokes horseback imagery commonly found in historical buildings. The arrangement of the four objects creates an interactive experience reminiscent of a Chinese magic cube, allowing for various configurations that can form miniature representations of traditional courtyard houses (siheyuan) or L-shaped courtyards (danshenshou).
