FOSTEX KOTORI 501 Bluetooth Speaker

FOSTEX KOTORI 501 Bluetooth Speaker is an innovative audio device that exemplifies minimalist design philosophy through its cylindrical form factor and user-centric approach. Designed by Toshihiko Sakai, this sophisticated speaker system presents itself as a transparent acrylic cylinder elegantly wrapped in interchangeable fabric, earning recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Digital and Electronic Device Design category. The speaker's design deliberately minimizes visible plastic components, incorporating recessed elements and strategic foot placement to prevent rolling, while transparent acrylic discs at each end serve as intuitive controllers for power and volume adjustment. The device's technical innovation lies in its proprietary actuator technology, positioned at the interior base, which generates rich bass frequencies by utilizing the resonance of supporting surfaces, effectively overcoming the traditional limitations of compact speaker systems. This engineering achievement is complemented by advanced acoustic technology that creates an immersive 360-degree soundstage, transcending the physical constraints of its modest dimensions (206mm width, 75mm depth, 91mm height). The speaker's customizable aesthetic allows users to select from ten fabric grille colors and four body colors, enabling personalization while maintaining its sophisticated presence in contemporary interior spaces. The design philosophy emphasizes seamless integration with modern living environments, particularly targeting users aged 20-40 years, while the thoughtful engineering approach eliminates visible instructions on the device itself, relying instead on intuitive interaction patterns and temporary instruction films for initial setup.
