Flourishing Grandbuy Renovation Of A Department Store
Flourishing Grandbuy Renovation of a Department Store is a significant commercial space transformation project in Guangzhou, China, that exemplifies innovative interior design solutions for retail environments. This comprehensive renovation endeavor, designed by Hu Chen, addressed the spatial misalignment between two buildings constructed in different time periods, successfully unifying them into a cohesive shopping destination. The project, spanning 66,300 square meters, implemented a strategic redesign that prioritized consumer psychology and circulation patterns through the creation of a central axis and core atrium. Notable design elements include the installation of sightseeing elevators and escalators to enhance vertical accessibility, the implementation of culturally-informed visual design elements, and the integration of advanced lighting systems utilizing RGB LED technology. The renovation's exterior features lightweight aluminum plating with a changeable color system, cast in traditional Guangzhou architectural patterns, creating a distinctive presence within the urban landscape. The project's success is evidenced by its remarkable impact on commercial performance, achieving record-breaking sales upon reopening in 2020, despite the challenging pandemic conditions. The design's innovative approach to space optimization and consumer flow management earned recognition through a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its contribution to advancing retail design practices and sustainable commercial space solutions.
