Floral Pavilion Permanent Pavilion is an innovative architectural installation that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of Islamic artistic traditions with contemporary design principles. This Silver A' Design Award-winning structure, measuring 6 meters in height and 15 meters in diameter, stands as a remarkable hemispheric dome that provides 177 square meters of shelter at the Al Majaz Waterfront in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. The pavilion's design draws profound inspiration from traditional Islamic carpet patterns, translating their intricate geometric motifs into a three-dimensional architectural form. The structure comprises 24 wooden frame components and 120 perforated plywood panels, each meticulously engineered to create a sophisticated lattice effect. During daylight hours, the perforated patterns cast intricate shadows on the ground, creating an ephemeral carpet of light and shade that transforms with the sun's movement, while at night, 22 LED floodlights (60W each) illuminate the structure, creating a mesmerizing interplay of light and geometry against the evening sky. The pavilion's construction demonstrates remarkable technical achievement, utilizing two layers of 9mm plywood finished with texture paint, and was assembled on-site in just five days. This permanent installation, which debuted during the Islamic Arts Festival 2017, represents a significant advancement in architectural design by reinterpreting traditional Islamic artistic elements through contemporary fabrication methods and sustainable materials, while serving as a cultural bridge between historical decorative arts and modern architectural innovation.
