Flexo InForm Assembly Pavilion
Flexo InForm Assembly Pavilion is an innovative architectural structure that exemplifies the convergence of parametric design, material performance, and traditional craftsmanship inspiration. This self-supporting pavilion, which earned the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Generative, Algorithmic, Parametric and AI-Assisted Design category, represents a breakthrough in computational design and structural engineering. The pavilion's design draws inspiration from the weaving patterns of natural fibers indigenous to the Argentine Littoral region, particularly wicker and rush, translating these traditional techniques into a contemporary architectural language through advanced parametric discretization. The structure employs active bending behavior as a fundamental design principle, utilizing 3mm multi-laminated Guatambu wooden plates that are precisely cut using CNC technology. This innovative approach challenges conventional structural engineering paradigms by intentionally exploiting material flexibility rather than minimizing it. The pavilion's construction methodology involves a three-stage assembly process: initial staking and organization of the wooden strips, component joining, and the final lifting and adjustment phase that enables the structure's self-shaping capabilities. Notable for its mono-material composition, the pavilion achieves remarkable structural efficiency through its complex geometric configuration, which creates a double-curvature woven spatial structure with multidirectional resistance. The design's algorithmic foundation enables contextual adaptation and various geometric possibilities while maintaining structural integrity. This adaptability, combined with its lightweight nature and efficient assembly system, makes it particularly suitable for temporary installations and educational environments. The pavilion exemplifies sustainable design principles through its minimal material usage, transportability, and potential for disassembly and reuse.
