Filoferru Outdoor Chair

Filoferru Outdoor Chair

Filoferru Outdoor Chair is an innovative outdoor seating solution that exemplifies minimalist design through its singular material construction of steel rod. Created by Italian architects Robby Cantarutti and Francesca Petricich in 2015, this sculptural piece draws inspiration from Harry Bertoia's Diamond Chair while introducing its own unique organic aesthetic. The chair's distinctive form emerges from a complex interplay of bent steel wires that appear to self-generate, mimicking the natural growth patterns observed in tree rings and organic structures. Through advanced CNC bending technology and precise welding techniques, the design achieves a seamless integration of form and function, with dimensions of 65cm in length, 60cm in depth, and 75cm in height, featuring a comfortable sitting height of 45cm. The chair's construction methodology emphasizes minimal interference with the clean lines of the steel rod, resulting in a visually lightweight yet structurally robust piece. As part of a broader collection that includes a lounge chair, stool, and lamp, the Filoferru Outdoor Chair represents a significant advancement in outdoor furniture design, demonstrating how industrial materials can be transformed into organic, functional art. The design's excellence was recognized with a Golden A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2017, acknowledging its innovative approach to material use and aesthetic achievement. The chair's ability to interact harmoniously with outdoor environments while maintaining its sculptural integrity makes it a notable contribution to contemporary furniture design, particularly in its exploration of the relationship between industrial materials and natural forms.
