Feng Ya Wu Zhen Ceramic Speaker is an innovative audio device that masterfully combines traditional Chinese ceramics with modern sound technology, exemplifying the harmonious fusion of Eastern aesthetics and contemporary functionality. Commissioned by the Jiaxing Municipal Government and completed in December 2023, this cultural-creative product was designed by Yang Chao, Chen Zilong, and Xiang Yang to showcase the rich heritage of Wuzhen, a historic water town in China's Jiangnan region. The speaker's distinctive design incorporates architectural elements from Wuzhen's ancient buildings, rendered through modern graphic compositions that reinterpret traditional Chinese landscape painting. Crafted through a meticulous hand-firing process at 1,300 degrees Celsius, each 70mm cubic speaker becomes a unique piece of functional art. The product's environmentally conscious packaging features soft-touch matte laminate decoration, 300g matte coated paper exterior, and black pearl velvet cotton interior, measuring 100mm x 80mm x 100mm. Notable for its inclusive design approach, the packaging incorporates Braille and embossed musical note elements, making it accessible to a broader audience. The speaker's development involved extensive research into regional cultural elements and ceramic craftsmanship, resulting in a product that serves both as a high-fidelity audio device and a cultural ambassador. This innovative approach to audio equipment design earned the project a Bronze A' Design Award in the Audio and Sound Equipment Design category, recognizing its successful integration of cultural heritage, technological innovation, and sustainable design principles. The speaker represents a significant achievement in combining traditional craftsmanship with modern functionality, while addressing contemporary concerns about environmental sustainability and inclusive design.
