F.ly Table Lamp
f.ly Table lamp is an innovative lighting design that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of nature-inspired patterns and contemporary functionality. Created by Brazilian designer Andrea Macruz, this distinctive table lamp draws its inspiration from the intricate venation patterns of the Embaúba leaf, transforming natural asymmetrical patterns into a sophisticated origami-like structure. The lamp's design challenges traditional symmetrical origami conventions by incorporating the organic, irregular branching patterns found in nature, particularly focusing on the withering process of leaves. Crafted from pH-neutral paper to ensure longevity and prevent yellowing, the lamp features surface plaiting enhanced with natural vegetable pigments such as Annato, Saffron, and Indigo, creating subtle color variations that mirror the gradients found in natural foliage. The innovative design allows the lamp to be stored and transported in a flat state, measuring approximately 270mm in diameter and 50mm in height when closed, while expanding to roughly 480mm width, 250mm depth, and 200mm height when opened. This transformative capability not only serves practical purposes but also creates an engaging user experience that mimics the natural unfolding of leaves. The incorporation of LED lighting technology ensures energy efficiency while providing optimal illumination. The design earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, acknowledging its creative approach to combining biomorphic design principles with functional lighting solutions. The project, completed in São Paulo in 2017, represents a significant advancement in sustainable lighting design, utilizing eco-friendly materials and drawing upon computational design techniques to achieve its complex folding patterns.
