Eyes Flower Stand is an innovative artistic installation and functional sculpture that reimagines the traditional flower stand through a philosophical lens, created by Professor Naai-Jung Shih. This avant-garde piece features an oval-shaped golden sphere punctuated by irregular openings reminiscent of human eyes, symbolizing humanity's perpetual search for beauty in nature. The design, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category, masterfully combines aesthetic appeal with practical functionality. Created through sophisticated parametric 3D design software and realized using advanced rapid prototyping techniques, the stand measures 23.5cm in width, 30cm in height, and 12cm in depth. The structure's distinctive feature lies in its dual-layer concentric surfaces with strategically placed random openings, 3D-printed in Nylon and adorned with gold foil exterior finishing. The design incorporates three sets of adjustable legs, ensuring stability on various surfaces while maintaining its sculptural integrity. The seemingly random arrangement of openings follows a carefully programmed parametric order, allowing for versatile accommodation of different flower stems and plant types. This philosophical approach to design transforms the piece into more than just a flower stand – it becomes a contemplative object that serves as a mediator between human perception and natural beauty, particularly enhanced when illuminated. The innovative use of parametric design technology, combined with traditional craftsmanship in gold foil application, demonstrates a sophisticated fusion of contemporary digital fabrication methods with classical finishing techniques.
