Extract Retail Design
Extract Retail Design is an innovative retail interior design concept that reimagines the traditional Chinese tea house experience through a sophisticated blend of historical elements and contemporary spatial design. Created by designers Yu-Chi Liu and Yu-Ming Chen, this architectural project encompasses 137.85 square meters and accommodates 44 seats, exemplifying the one store, one design philosophy where each location's aesthetic responds uniquely to its surrounding environment. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, masterfully integrates local architectural features with modern retail requirements, featuring a distinctive round window design that frames views both inward and outward like traditional Chinese paintings. The space employs premium materials including imitation clear concrete paint, natural wood, titanium brushed stainless steel plates, and semi-cast quartz brick to create an atmosphere reminiscent of 1930s Shanghai. The layout thoughtfully incorporates an open tea brewing counter that allows customers to observe the tea preparation process, while the interior is strategically divided into various seating arrangements to accommodate different social groupings, from solo visitors to small gatherings. The design's cultural sensitivity is evident in its incorporation of elements from a historic girls' school, including the iconic circular window motif, which creates a seamless dialogue between interior and exterior spaces. This award-winning design successfully combines functionality with aesthetic appeal, featuring starry chandeliers and carefully considered spatial arrangements that create memorable customer experiences while paying homage to Shanghai's rich cultural heritage.
