Exotic Baseball Restaurant
Exotic Baseball Restaurant is an innovative interior design project that reimagines the conventional hot pot dining experience through a bold fusion of baseball aesthetics and Moroccan-inspired architectural elements. Located in Taoyuan and completed in January 2022, this 654.5-square-meter establishment represents a dramatic departure from traditional restaurant design paradigms, featuring an intentionally weathered exterior characterized by undried cement applications and exposed H-shaped steel structural elements. The design, created by Ching-Hsiao Chiu, winner of the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, deliberately challenges established restaurant aesthetics by employing raw materials such as concrete, rusted iron, and exposed brick to create an atmosphere of calculated desolation and mystery. The two-story structure accommodates up to 55 patrons and incorporates thoughtful spatial organization, with the ground floor housing essential service areas and dining spaces across 436 square meters, while the 218-square-meter second floor features adaptable private rooms and an outdoor terrace. Distinguished by its unconventional approach to materiality, the restaurant showcases irregular concrete textures, mottled surfaces, and strategic lighting elements, including a distinctive home-plate design logo illumination. The interior design seamlessly integrates baseball motifs with industrial elements, featuring custom-designed chariot-inspired furniture, an electrocardiogram wall installation, and carefully positioned photography opportunities throughout the space. This award-winning design successfully balances bold architectural statements with refined details, creating an immersive dining environment that transforms the conventional hot pot restaurant paradigm into an experiential destination where gastronomy meets architectural innovation.
