Evolve Lobby Art

Evolve Lobby Art

Evolve Lobby Art is a monumental suspended sculpture that exemplifies the intersection of art, science, and architectural design through its innovative use of dichroic materials and geometric forms. This sophisticated installation, designed by Davis McCarty, represents a groundbreaking advancement in lobby art through its integration of NASA-developed dichroic Plexiglas, which creates dynamic color-changing effects as viewers move through the space. The sculpture, measuring 6000mm x 6000mm x 4300mm and weighing 960 pounds, features a remarkable Penrose triangle at its apex, demonstrating the physical manifestation of a seemingly impossible geometric form. The installation's sophisticated engineering incorporates aircraft cable suspension systems, patent-pending hinges crafted from aerospace-grade aluminum, and a strategic combination of mirrors, LEDs, and natural light interaction. The piece is particularly notable for its ability to create dichromatic rainbows and playful colored shadows that evolve throughout the day, offering a constantly changing visual experience that enhances the architectural space. This innovative work, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category, demonstrates exceptional technical execution while embodying core values of approachability, intellectual pursuit, and visionary thinking through its abstract representation of circular, hexagonal, and triangular forms. The installation's sophisticated integration of quantum-like color-shifting properties, achieved through its specialized materials and construction, creates an immersive experience that challenges viewers' perceptions and understanding of space and light.
