Essence OPEN & CLOSE is an innovative interior design concept that redefines the traditional boundaries of living spaces by emphasizing natural connectivity and human interaction. This strategic design approach, created by architect Lulu Cheng, fundamentally reimagines the relationship between humans and their living environment by introducing a more organic and fluid spatial arrangement. The design philosophy centers on bringing inhabitants back to a more natural state of living, addressing the challenges of contemporary urban life through thoughtful spatial orientation and carefully selected living objects. At its core, the project employs a revolutionary approach to space utilization, featuring penetrating and lowered-height spatial units such as carpets and dining tables, which replace conventional living room arrangements. The design deliberately moves away from the typical television-centered living space, instead implementing low-height seating arrangements that create a square-shaped central living area. This innovative configuration enables visual movement to flow seamlessly throughout the entire house, fostering more intimate interactions between household members while dissolving traditional spatial boundaries. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional expertise in combining functional practicality with aesthetic sophistication.
