EP Books Taichung Charity Library is an innovative charitable reading space that revolutionizes the traditional library concept through its distinctive architectural and interior design elements. Located in Taichung, this 347.109-square-meter facility spans across two floors and features a remarkable curved interface that outlines the flow of books, creating an immersive literary environment. The design, conceived by Cheng Hui Hsin and completed in November 2017, employs a sophisticated arrangement of curved bookshelves that seamlessly connect the first and second floors, generating a wave-like aesthetic that greets visitors upon entry. The space is characterized by its fresh, pure tonal palette and thoughtfully positioned ring-shaped ceiling lamps that create multilayered light and shadow effects throughout the interior. The library's unique rotating bookcase system, inspired by fantasy literature, effectively divides larger areas into three distinct zones while providing sound insulation. This innovative feature not only enhances space utilization but also adds an element of discovery to the reading experience. The design earned recognition with a Golden A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its exceptional approach to creating an accessible, user-friendly reading environment. The library operates on a nominal fee structure of NTD100, making literature accessible to all while maintaining a sophisticated, reader-friendly atmosphere complete with comfortable seating and adaptable spaces for community activities. The high-ceiling interior, complemented by well-proportioned bookcases and light-colored wood elements, creates an atmosphere that encourages visitors to disconnect from digital devices and immerse themselves in the traditional pleasure of reading.
