Emotional Object #010: Roots Coffee Table

Emotional Object #010: Roots Coffee table is an innovative and artistically crafted furniture piece that masterfully reinterprets the natural forms of the sacred Ceiba tree found in Havana, Cuba, into a contemporary design statement. Created through a sophisticated blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology, this coffee table represents a harmonious intersection of nature-inspired design and functional furniture. The table's distinctive design features a dynamic geometric form where a line revolves around a volume, creating an organic, root-like structure that intersects with a contrasting surface material. Measuring 900 x 900 x 300 millimeters, the table is constructed using veneered polywood and lacquered MDF, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail in its execution. The creation process involves a combination of advanced laser cutting technology, CNC routing techniques, and traditional woodworking methods, requiring the expertise of third-generation craftsmen. This limited-production piece, which emerged from fifteen prototypes developed between December 2013 and January 2016, exemplifies the pinnacle of furniture design where form and function coalesce. The table's complex geometry and sophisticated construction earned it recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to materials, aesthetic appeal, and craftsmanship excellence. The design philosophy behind this piece emphasizes creating furniture that transcends mere functionality to establish an emotional connection with its users, offering a contemplative experience similar to observing natural phenomena.
