Eleware Culinary is an innovative tableware collection that reimagines traditional Chinese dining etiquette for contemporary cultural contexts, designed by British-based industrial designer Linlin Li. This sophisticated dining set, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design category, represents a thoughtful response to evolving dining customs in modern China. The collection comprises three distinct pieces, each crafted through clay throwing techniques, that address specific dining challenges while maintaining aesthetic elegance. The design's primary innovations include an elevated plate configuration that discretely conceals the diner's face during bone disposal, an ingeniously inclined bottom surface that facilitates natural oil separation from food, and a bowl featuring curves inspired by traditional teacup design to enhance the soup-drinking experience. Developed between April 2017 and August 2018, the project emerged from extensive research incorporating design ethnography, prototyping, and user interviews, reflecting a deep understanding of behavioral psychology and cultural rituals. The dimensions of the pieces (140x130x40mm, 140x130x120mm, and 110x100x55mm) are carefully calculated to optimize both functionality and user comfort. This design exemplifies the intersection of cultural sensitivity and practical innovation, addressing modern dining etiquette concerns while preserving the ceremonial aspects of Chinese dining culture. The project's success lies in its ability to transform potentially awkward dining moments into refined experiences, demonstrating how thoughtful design can enhance social interactions and cultural practices.
