Electric Aviation
Electric Aviation is changing how designers think about airplane interiors and materials by making weight and energy efficiency more important than ever. Using lightweight, recycled, or plant-based materials helps reduce the energy needed for flight, which is key for electric aircraft with limited battery capacity. Designers are now exploring modular cabin layouts that can be quickly adapted for different uses, making planes more flexible and reducing waste. Solar panels can be built into the surface of wings or fuselage to help charge batteries during flight, which is a new design challenge. Electric propulsion systems are quieter, so designers can use new soundscapes and lighting to create a more comfortable passenger experience. These changes are leading to new design awards and competitions, such as those organized by the A' Design Award, which recognize creative solutions in sustainable aviation.
