el ANIMALITO Chair is an innovative furniture design that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of ergonomic functionality and expressive aesthetics, created by Polish designer Dagmara Oliwa. This distinctive seating solution, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, represents a thoughtful response to the challenge of creating personalized furniture in a standardized modern world. The chair's frame is crafted from solid beech wood, precisely manufactured using advanced 5-axis CNC technology, while its backrest features sophisticated 3D-bent veneer formed through press matrices. Measuring 520mm in width, 540mm in depth, and 835mm in height, the chair incorporates ergonomic principles based on Grandjean's research, featuring a strategically tilted seat and a backrest with dual bearing areas for sacral and lumbar support. The design's distinctive characteristic lies in its adaptability to reflect its owner's personality, capable of expressing various characteristics from predatory and dignified to quiet and subdued. The manufacturing process overcame significant technical challenges, particularly in achieving the complex 4-way plywood bending for the backrest and successfully integrating the wooden panel frame with the plywood backrest. The chair's stability is enhanced through the calculated deviation of its rear legs, while its versatile aesthetic makes it suitable for both public and private interior spaces. The design process, which spanned from April 2014 to September 2015 in Wrocław, involved extensive research into production methodologies and material testing, particularly focusing on veneer types and thicknesses for optimal backrest construction. This piece represents a significant achievement in contemporary furniture design, demonstrating how traditional materials can be transformed through modern technology to create highly personalized, functional art pieces.
