Ekoteka Eco notebook is an innovative sustainable stationery product that exemplifies the principles of eco-conscious design and circular economy. Created by Croatian designer Renato Pongrac, this environmentally responsible notebook represents a holistic approach to sustainable product development, incorporating recycled materials throughout its construction. The notebook's distinctive cover is crafted from reclaimed textile materials sourced from discarded clothing items, while its internal pages are produced using recycled paper, demonstrating a commitment to waste reduction and resource conservation. A particularly innovative feature is its biodegradable label containing spruce tree seeds, which can be planted to grow into a tree, creating a direct positive environmental impact. The packaging demonstrates thoughtful sustainability considerations, designed to serve a secondary purpose as a photo frame, extending its utility beyond its primary function. The production process involves collaboration with local social cooperatives, where individuals with disabilities participate in sorting and processing the recycled textiles, incorporating social responsibility into the manufacturing chain. Each notebook is unique due to the varied nature of the reclaimed materials used, and the production of 400 A6-sized notebooks has demonstrated significant environmental benefits, including the conservation of 136 kg of waste, reduction of 20 pounds of CO2 emissions, and saving of 2,816 liters of water. This innovative approach to sustainable design earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Sustainable Products, Projects and Green Design category, acknowledging its contribution to environmental conservation and social development.
