Eclectic Indian Penthouse Penthouse
Eclectic Indian penthouse Penthouse is a distinguished residential interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Indian aesthetics with contemporary luxury living. Located in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India, this three-level penthouse spans approximately 452 square meters and represents a masterful integration of cultural heritage with modern spatial design principles. The project, designed by architect Nupur Magdum, is characterized by its warm, lived-in atmosphere that eschews artificial ostentation in favor of authentic luxury. The design's cornerstone features include a dramatic 35-foot hand-painted Tree of Life mural adorning the staircase wall, strategically placed cutouts in floor slabs to enhance spatial communication, and a sophisticated arrangement of living spaces across multiple levels. The penthouse's architectural program distributes functionality vertically, with the fifth floor serving as the main living and entrance level, the fourth floor dedicated to private family spaces, and the sixth floor housing entertainment areas complete with a plunge pool. Notable technical achievements include an innovative cantilevered staircase supported by a specialized structural beam system and a distinctive 11-foot cantilever breakfast counter. The interior design philosophy emphasizes the use of natural materials, particularly wood and rustic finishes, while minimizing the use of glass and steel to maintain authenticity. The project, which received recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, successfully overcomes the challenges of sourcing materials in a smaller urban center to create a sophisticated living space that celebrates its Indian roots while embracing international design standards.
