DrumString Instrument is an innovative hybrid musical instrument that seamlessly combines the characteristics of percussion and string instruments, designed by Mohamad Montazeri. This groundbreaking design, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Musical Instruments Design category, represents a significant advancement in musical instrument design by introducing a novel approach to sound production and performance methodology. The instrument features a distinctive circular form with a diameter of 50 centimeters and a height of 6 centimeters, weighing 2.4 kilograms, and incorporates both drum elements and a six-string system (two nylon and four steel strings) tuned to the standard E-A-D-G-B-E configuration. The percussion component offers a range of notes including D3, A3, Bb3, C4, D4, E4, F4, and A4, while the construction utilizes deep-drawn steel components hardened through gas nitrification processes. The ergonomic design includes a sophisticated strap system that secures the instrument across the shoulders and waist, enabling performers to utilize both hands simultaneously for playing, thereby creating unique sonic possibilities and performance techniques. The instrument's design philosophy emphasizes the fusion of aesthetics and functionality, drawing inspiration from sound wave patterns and shield forms, while its minimal and modern aesthetic approach contributes to its distinctive visual appeal.
