Dream House Private Residence

Dream House Private Residence is an architecturally distinctive private dwelling that masterfully balances traditional and contemporary design elements, completed in 2015 in Kefalari, Athens, Greece. Conceived and executed by lead architect Kirki Mariolopoulou alongside a skilled team of architects and designers, this 500-square-meter residence represents a sophisticated exploration of dualities in architectural expression. The structure's design philosophy deliberately oscillates between surrealism and realism, manifesting as a living organism that simultaneously exists in parallel realities of function and experience. The residence's architectural program vertically distributes its spaces across multiple levels, featuring both underground and overground areas of 250 square meters each, addressing the challenges posed by the plot's restricted dimensions. The design's distinctive character emerges through its thoughtful integration of classical and modern elements, achieved through a carefully curated black and white palette punctuated by strategic use of bold colors, reminiscent of children's artwork in its symbolic approach. Notable architectural features include a traditional pitched roof, intimate window openings, and elevated ceilings, which harmoniously coexist with contemporary elements such as expansive glazed surfaces and minimalist forms. The project, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, with custom-designed elements ranging from staircases and openings to smaller components like basins and doorknobs. This meticulous approach was particularly noteworthy given the constraints of Greece's construction industry during the economic crisis. The residence's design emerged from extensive research into the owner's psychological profile, combining conscious needs with subconscious desires to create spaces that offer multiple architectural experiences and spatial surprises, effectively materializing the client's dream of a home that transcends mere functionality to become a deeply personal architectural narrative.
