Dowell Time Axis Residential Landscape

Dowell Time Axis Residential Landscape

Dowell Time Axis Residential Landscape is an innovative residential landscape design project that exemplifies contemporary urban community planning through its thoughtful integration of linear elements and functional spaces. Located in Zhejiang, China, this Bronze A' Design Award-winning project masterfully addresses the challenges of a long, narrow residential site by implementing a sophisticated one courtyard, two axes, and multiple gardens concept. The design's primary organizing element, the Time Axis, serves as the main thoroughfare, featuring guided pavements with varying colors and shapes that effectively delineate different functional zones while creating an engaging pedestrian experience. The landscape incorporates a diverse selection of carefully chosen flora, including Chinese tallow trees, magnolia, camphor trees, beech, osmanthus, and early cherry trees, providing year-round seasonal interest and environmental benefits. The Social Courtyard functions as a central node for community interaction, featuring a harmonious combination of landscape porches and open lawns that facilitate neighborhood engagement. The Children's Playground, distinguished by its vibrant orange aesthetic, employs geometric paving to create age-appropriate zones for children from 0-12 years. The design also integrates sophisticated environmental features, including a rainwater harvesting system that contributes to urban flood management and supports sponge city initiatives. The Sports Lines element weaves throughout the development, incorporating a comprehensive running track, adult fitness areas, and an elderly health garden, while thoughtfully designed warm-tone lighting creates an inviting nighttime atmosphere that enhances the community's safety and aesthetic appeal.
