DOT Desktop Calendar
DOT Desktop Calendar is an innovative desktop calendar design that exemplifies minimalist Japanese aesthetics through its sophisticated interpretation of circular motifs. This meticulously crafted calendar, designed by Caxton Chung, represents a harmonious blend of functional design and cultural symbolism, drawing inspiration from Japan's iconic national flag. The design's distinctive features include embossed dots forming a practical grid system, die-cut semi-circular monthly tabs, and a creative transformation of numerical elements into circular patterns. Utilizing high-quality Polytrade Graffitti Diamond paper in 290gsm for the cover and 170gsm for interior pages, the calendar demonstrates exceptional attention to material selection and printing techniques. The design incorporates four different background colors throughout its pages, creating visual variety while maintaining aesthetic cohesion. Measuring 167mm in width and 220mm in height, the calendar employs an innovative system of dots to indicate public holidays across different global regions: single dots for Asia-Pacific, circles for Europe, Middle East and Africa, and slashes for Americas. The sophisticated production process required precise calibration of embossing techniques to achieve the optimal balance between visual impact and paper integrity, particularly in the execution of the grid system and the smooth die-cut edges of the monthly tabs. This thoughtfully executed design, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, demonstrates excellence in combining practical functionality with aesthetic refinement, serving both as a useful time-management tool and an elegant piece of desktop decor.
