Doi Chaang Coffee Packaging Design is an innovative packaging solution that revolutionized coffee branding through its unique approach to community representation and social cohesion. Created in Thailand in 2018, this design exemplifies how packaging can transcend its primary functional purpose to become a powerful tool for social unity and brand storytelling. The design features portraits of coffee growers from various hill tribes, including the Akha, Lisu, and Haw communities, wearing their traditional attire, with each blend showcasing different growers on a rotating annual basis. Utilizing an aluminum foil pouch with offset printing in three Pantone colors and Spot UV finishing, the packaging measures 10 x 5 x 30 centimeters and incorporates QR code technology for traceability. The design's significance lies in its ability to foster unity among previously fragmented farming communities, effectively addressing internal conflicts while simultaneously enhancing market presence. This socially conscious approach to packaging design not only succeeded in its commercial objectives but also created a profound sense of pride and ownership among the coffee-growing communities, leading to improved cohesion and the return of previously disconnected farmers to the collective.
