Discovery And Exploration Exhibition Space
Discovery and Exploration Exhibition Space is an innovative archaeological exhibition design project that revolutionizes the presentation of historical artifacts through contemporary spatial design principles. This sophisticated interior space, designed by Biwei Zhu and awarded the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, masterfully integrates visual grid applications to create an immersive educational environment within a 485-square-meter area. The exhibition space, completed in 2018, showcases approximately 500 significant artifacts spanning from prehistory to the Tang Dynasty, organized into four distinct sections: Discovery, Idea, Science and Technology, and Cultural Protection. The design's innovative approach employs a systematic grid system of 10x10cm and 30x30cm modules, drawing inspiration from archaeological excavation methodologies to create a coherent visual language that helps visitors perceive scale relationships among densely displayed artifacts. A notable technical achievement of the space is its custom-designed copper mounting structures, specifically engineered to safely display approximately 150 bronze mirrors, ceramics, and tiles while maintaining aesthetic harmony. The exhibition space, with its 2.7-meter height constraint, demonstrates exceptional space optimization through its intensive display strategy, utilizing modern techniques to present a continuous historical narrative while maintaining visual order and creating multiple levels of impact. The design's primary focus extends beyond mere aesthetics to provide a new experiential framework for understanding and appreciating historical and cultural heritage, effectively balancing the demands of artifact preservation with engaging public presentation.
