Different Maps Wall Art

Different Maps Wall Art is an innovative three-dimensional cartographic artwork that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology to create unique, personalized geographical representations. This sophisticated wall decoration, designed by the Polish creative duo Przemysław and Anna Koczkodaj, employs laser-cut plywood layers to represent street infrastructure and epoxy resin to simulate water bodies, resulting in a striking dimensional effect that brings any chosen location to life. The piece, measuring 530 mm x 530 mm x 35 mm, represents a significant advancement in personalized cartographic art by enabling the visualization of any geographical location, from major metropolitan areas to small towns, through a meticulous combination of materials and techniques. The creation process involves precise laser cutting technology for wooden elements, followed by careful manual grinding to achieve optimal finish, while the epoxy resin is specially applied to enhance the three-dimensional effect and create depth through multi-tonal variations. This design, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category, emerged from a two-year development process (2018-2020) that solved complex technical challenges, particularly in achieving the perfect integration of wood and resin materials. The artwork's unique properties stem from the natural variations in wood grain patterns and resin flow, ensuring that each piece is inherently unique while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship and aesthetic appeal. The design successfully bridges the gap between traditional cartographic representation and contemporary art, offering a sophisticated solution for preserving meaningful geographical locations in an artistically compelling format.
