Design Of Decorative Edging Strips Of Wood For Use With Furniture

Decorative edging strips of wood, commonly known as molding, are used as a finishing detail for furniture. They are used to conceal the edges of the furniture and add to its design element. A good molding adds an elegant touch to the furniture piece and elevates its overall aesthetic appeal. To design a good decorative edging strip of wood, there are a few key criteria that need to be met: 1. Material: The quality of the wood used for the molding is of utmost importance. The wood should be of high quality, free from knots, and should have a consistent grain pattern. 2. Design: The design of the molding should complement the furniture piece it is being used on. It should not be too overpowering or too understated. 3. Size: The size of the molding should be proportionate to the furniture piece it is being used on. A thin strip of molding may not be enough to conceal the edge, while a thick one may overwhelm the piece. 4. Finish: The finish of the molding should match the finish of the furniture piece. It should be sanded smooth and finished with a clear coat to protect the wood and enhance its natural beauty. 5. Installation: The molding should be easy to install and should securely attach to the furniture piece without causing any damage. In conclusion, a good decorative edging strip of wood is an essential element to the design of furniture. It should be designed with attention to detail and meet the above criteria to ensure it enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the furniture.
