Deniz Tray is an innovative children's tableware design that seamlessly integrates storytelling with mealtime experiences, created by industrial designer Bülent Ünal. This pedagogically-informed design consists of a pressed plywood tray measuring 300mm x 400mm x 25mm, featuring four distinct rows of shaped holes that accommodate interchangeable character pieces, creating an interactive storytelling platform during meals. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Baby, Kids and Children's Products Design category, represents a significant advancement in children's dining accessories by combining sustainable materials with cognitive development principles. The tray's unique construction allows for dynamic character placement and repositioning, enabling parents to create engaging narratives while children eat, thereby transforming routine mealtimes into opportunities for imaginative play and learning. Crafted from environmentally conscious plywood and finished with non-hazardous paints, the design emphasizes both safety and sustainability. The system includes approximately 10-12 interchangeable characters that can be arranged in various configurations within the tray's structured layout, allowing for multiple storytelling possibilities and encouraging parent-child interaction.
