Deli Viet Vietnamese restaurant is an innovative interior design project that masterfully blends Eastern and Western cultural heritage, completed in Hong Kong in 2016. Designed by Joe Lam and Brian Lai, this 2000-square-foot establishment represents a sophisticated fusion of Vietnamese traditional elements with contemporary French aesthetics. The design concept draws inspiration from Vietnam's natural landscapes, incorporating this influence through a carefully curated selection of materials including concrete walls, vertical green installations, solid wood wall panels, vintage floor tiles, and wooden shutters. Despite the challenging constraints of a triangle-shaped layout within a shopping mall environment lacking natural daylight, the designers successfully created an immersive dining atmosphere by implementing a garden-inspired concept that brings the outdoors inside. The restaurant's interior demonstrates exceptional space optimization through thoughtful floor planning and material configuration, effectively overcoming spatial limitations while maintaining aesthetic coherence. The design philosophy emphasizes a harmonious balance between raw, natural elements and modern sophistication, featuring an innovative approach to biophilic design through extensive use of wood, rust finishes, and living plants. This project, which garnered a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2017, exemplifies excellence in commercial interior design through its successful integration of functional requirements with atmospheric dining experience, showcasing how strategic design solutions can transform challenging architectural constraints into unique spatial advantages.
