Daylight, River And Wind Residence

Daylight, River and Wind Residence is an exemplary architectural and interior design project completed in 2016 in Taichung City, Taiwan, distinguished by its harmonious integration of contemporary aesthetics with natural elements. This five-story residential structure, honored with the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, masterfully combines black, white, and grey tones while establishing a meaningful dialogue with its surrounding environment, including the adjacent culture creative industry park and nearby river. The residence's innovative design, conceived by Chien-I Chen, features a sophisticated composition of exposed concrete walls, black-and-white bricks, and iron grille decorative elements that create a delicate balance between modern architectural expression and warm living spaces. The ground floor incorporates a majestic hallway and circular square, serving as a transitional space that strengthens the building's connection to its urban context. Spanning 880 square meters, the interior spaces are thoughtfully arranged to accommodate multi-generational living, with the second through fourth floors dedicated to family activities. The design's success lies in its ability to transcend the conventional notion of home as merely a place for rest, instead creating an environment where various narratives of daily life unfold naturally. The integration of wooden floors, carefully selected furniture, and modern sculptures softens the contemporary concrete structure, while strategic placement of greenery throughout the space creates an inviting atmosphere that encourages lingering and interaction. This award-winning project exemplifies how residential architecture can successfully merge aesthetic sophistication with practical functionality, while maintaining a strong connection to its urban and cultural context.
