David Webb

David Webb is an American jewellery designer renowned for his bold, innovative designs that fused various influences, including ancient Greek and Roman art, Indian and Chinese motifs, and nature-inspired elements. Born in 1925 in Asheville, North Carolina, Webb's interest in jewellery began at a young age, and he honed his skills as an apprentice to his uncle, a silversmith. In 1945, he moved to New York City, where he worked for several jewellery houses before establishing his own company, David Webb Inc., in 1948. Webb's unique style, characterized by the use of vibrant colored gemstones, enamel, and textured gold, quickly gained popularity among celebrities, socialites, and collectors. His most famous designs include the Kingdom collection, featuring animal-themed pieces, and the Maltese Cross collection, showcasing bold geometric shapes. Throughout his career, Webb's designs were worn by numerous high-profile clients, including Elizabeth Taylor, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Diana Vreeland. Despite his untimely death in 1975, Webb's legacy continues to influence the world of jewellery design, with his company still producing pieces that embody his distinctive aesthetic and commitment to craftsmanship
