Darwin Hospital Space

Darwin Hospital space is an innovative interior design project for a cosmetic surgery clinic located in downtown Taipei, distinguished by its conceptual interpretation of human anatomy and evolutionary theory. The design, created by Nic Lee and team, masterfully deconstructs the human form, transforming anatomical profiles into fluid architectural elements within a 662-square-meter space. The project's philosophical foundation draws parallel between human artistic intervention in aesthetics and the principles of deconstruction in architectural theory, manifesting in pure white sculptural forms that echo muscular tension and organic curves. The space encompasses three consulting areas, two clinic rooms, three consultation rooms, three post-procedure massage rooms, three operation rooms, and a recovery room, all integrated within a challenging existing structure with limited ceiling height of 2.2 meters. The technical sophistication of the design is evident in its advanced features, including plasma glass for privacy control, iris recognition systems, and specialized ventilation systems for operation room pressure control. The lighting design employs innovative PMMA and guide plate technology, creating homogeneous, glare-free illumination that maintains both functional and aesthetic excellence. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project, completed in 2015, represents a significant advancement in medical facility design, successfully combining sophisticated medical requirements with artistic vision while overcoming structural constraints through creative solutions.
