Dark Gold Restaurant

Dark Gold Restaurant is an innovative interior design project completed in 2020 in Tainan, Taiwan, that boldly challenges conventional minimalist restaurant aesthetics through its striking combination of dark elements and gold accents. The 86-square-meter space represents a dramatic departure from market trends, featuring eye-catching wildness in gold that creates an unforgettable first impression upon guests. The design, conceived by Yu-Cheng Chen, draws inspiration from naturally occurring minerals refined by high temperatures, incorporating asymmetric harmony throughout the space. The restaurant's distinctive features include decorated walls of varying heights interspersed with dark curtains, creating a sense of depth and sophistication. Grey straight slabs with burning veins expand across the space, while gold sticks and black mirrors are strategically placed to create an illusion of infinite space, reminiscent of a starry sky. A notable centerpiece is the innovative teppanyaki dining arrangement, where pentagon lighting bars emit irregular gold beams onto a uniquely designed dining-kitchen table. This configuration breaks from traditional square or round table arrangements by merging two circular tables, enabling enhanced chef-guest interaction in a planet-and-sun inspired layout. The design, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2021, exemplifies excellence in spatial planning, material selection, and lighting design, creating an immersive dining experience that harmoniously balances controlled architectural elements with unbridled artistic expression.
