Cube House Family Residence

Cube House Family Residence is an exemplary architectural achievement that harmoniously blends modern aspirations with traditional values, designed by architects Bhairavi Dhoot and Ujjaval Parekh. This innovative residential structure, recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, manifests as a sophisticated cubic volume strategically positioned within a dense urban environment. The design's distinguishing characteristic lies in its thoughtful allocation of space, dedicating one-third of the available land to landscaping while consolidating the living areas within a geometric form that adheres to precise mathematical principles at various scales. The residence encompasses multiple living spaces, five bedrooms, and a comprehensive entertainment zone featuring a home theatre, gym, and spa facilities. At its core, a double-volume family space connects to an intimate open courtyard, facilitating unobstructed visual connections throughout the floor plate. The architectural composition employs climate-responsive design principles, incorporating stepped terraces on the northern and eastern facades to maximize natural daylight, while raised blocks on the western and southern aspects provide strategic shadowing. The material palette demonstrates considerable sophistication, featuring brushed colored lime plaster and textured paints for external surfaces, complemented by red travertine elements in the compound wall and landscape features. Interior spaces are characterized by extensive use of teak timber, particularly evident in the distinctive rotating screen that veils the staircase, while lime-plastered ceilings with exposed concrete finishes establish a cohesive internal aesthetic. The project, completed between March 2016 and January 2018 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, exemplifies how contemporary residential architecture can successfully address the complex requirements of multigenerational living while maintaining aesthetic excellence and functional efficiency.
