Cribbing Straps For Horses

Cribbing Straps For Horses

Cribbing straps are a type of equine equipment used to prevent horses from cribbing, which is a destructive habit where horses bite and chew on surfaces such as fences, stall doors, and other objects. These straps are designed to fit around the horse's neck and apply pressure to the throat latch area when the horse tries to crib. The pressure created by the cribbing strap is intended to discourage the horse from cribbing by making it uncomfortable or difficult to do so. Cribbing straps are typically made from leather or nylon and are adjustable to fit different sizes of horses. They are available in a variety of styles, including those that attach to the horse's halter or bridle, as well as those that are designed to be worn independently. Some cribbing straps also feature additional padding or reinforcement to increase their effectiveness and durability. While cribbing straps can be an effective tool for managing cribbing behavior in horses, they are not a cure-all solution. Horses may still attempt to crib even while wearing a cribbing strap, and some horses may develop other destructive behaviors as a result of the discomfort caused by the strap. Additionally, cribbing straps should only be used under the guidance of a veterinarian or equine behavior specialist, as improper use or fitting of the strap can cause injury or discomfort to the horse.
