Cream Affair Dessert Studio is an innovative interior design project that revolutionizes the concept of dessert dining spaces through its distinctive architectural approach and thoughtful spatial organization. Located in the historic White Town area of Pondicherry, India, this 900-square-foot establishment seamlessly integrates French colonial influences with contemporary design elements, featuring a signature cascading white galleria that serves both as a functional staircase and a versatile group seating arrangement. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, masterfully employs a pastel color palette of blue, yellow, and pink to reflect the vibrant hues of desserts while creating an inviting atmosphere. The studio's most notable architectural feature, the prefabricated galleria, was constructed using an innovative composite of steel and concrete with ferro-cement technique, topped with white glossy vitrified tiles, demonstrating exceptional technical execution within a remarkably brief twelve-day construction period. The space's design philosophy draws inspiration from Pondicherry's beach promenade culture, effectively translating the informal, social experience of enjoying desserts by the beach into an interior environment. The implementation of a mezzanine cube seating area, accessed via the multifunctional galleria steps, creates an illusion of expanded space while fostering social interaction among patrons. This groundbreaking project, completed in 2017, represents a significant achievement in retail interior design, particularly for its innovative space utilization, material application, and successful integration of cultural elements with modern architectural principles.
