To use a cover glass, a drop of mounting medium, such as water or a specialized mounting medium, is placed on the specimen on the microscope slide. The cover glass is then carefully placed on top of the mounting medium, ensuring that no air bubbles are trapped between the cover glass and the slide. Excess mounting medium is removed from the edges of the cover glass using a tissue or a cotton swab.
