Cosmetea Pop Up Shop is an innovative retail and exhibition space located on the historic Yuyuan Road in Shanghai, China, representing a remarkable transformation of a former steamed bun restaurant into a sophisticated beauty retail environment. This architectural intervention, designed by Lina Chen and Yiting Ma, masterfully integrates traditional tea culture with contemporary cosmetic retail within a compact 9-square-meter space, earning recognition with a Golden A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category. The design concept draws inspiration from the symbolic form of a tea pitcher, featuring a dramatic facade opening that extends into a tunnel-like interior space, creating an illusion of infinite depth despite spatial constraints. The interior showcases meticulous attention to detail with mirrored stainless steel cladding, LED strip lighting, and custom-designed shelving that employs traditional mortise and tenon joinery principles. The space's red-painted wall cabinet serves both functional and aesthetic purposes, aligning with the brand's visual identity while providing essential display and storage solutions. This innovative retail environment successfully merges Oriental naturalism with modern fashion aesthetics, creating an immersive experience that temporarily transports visitors away from urban bustle while promoting the novel concept of tea-based cosmetics. The design's significance lies in its ability to challenge conventional beauty retail spaces through its architectural ingenuity, cultural sensitivity, and innovative approach to brand storytelling, completed at the end of 2019 as a testament to contemporary retail design excellence.
