Cork Trays Versatile Trays

Cork Trays Versatile Trays

Cork Trays Versatile Trays is an innovative series of sustainable home accessories that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design sensibilities. Created by Indian designer Saif Faisal, these minimalist trays showcase the versatile properties of cork material through three distinct variations: Soft-Square, Circular, and Loop designs. The collection demonstrates exceptional material innovation by incorporating two variants of cork - a more rigid natural cork for the main structure and a rubberized cork for the hanging strap, enabling wall-mounted functionality. These multi-purpose vessels serve various functions, from stationary organization to fruit presentation and jewelry storage, while maintaining a pure geometric aesthetic that remains visually appealing whether in active use or display. The design's ecological consciousness is evident in its material selection, as cork provides natural anti-bacterial and moisture-resistant properties without requiring additional treatments or finishes. The manufacturing process combines traditional handcrafting techniques with modern laser-cutting technology, utilizing 2.5mm thin layers of cork bonded together to create the final structure. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning design, recognized in the Furniture Design category, represents a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional wicker trays, emphasizing sustainability, functionality, and aesthetic refinement. The project, completed in 2017, demonstrates exceptional attention to material properties and structural integrity while maintaining a commitment to environmental responsibility through its use of 100% natural materials.
