Context Interior Residence

Context Interior Residence is an award-winning interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of Chinese aesthetic principles with contemporary spatial design, completed between 2014 and 2016 in Taipei, Taiwan. This sophisticated renovation of a 182-square-meter apartment masterfully addresses the complex requirements of multi-generational living through innovative spatial organization and thoughtful material selection. The design, conceived by Chin-Shu Chen and team, employs a distinctive approach to space transformation, where the strategic repositioning of key areas - including the conversion of a bathroom into a study room and the reconfiguration of bedroom layouts - creates an intricate balance between private and communal spaces. The project's notable features include the implementation of matte glass and iron elements in the semi-open study room, which ingeniously resolves lighting challenges while maintaining spatial coherence. The design philosophy draws inspiration from artist Gustav Klimt's perspective on the interrelation between art and life, manifesting in the sophisticated use of linear elements to delineate different functional zones. The material palette, incorporating stone, wood, and brick, establishes a gentle atmospheric quality while emphasizing the space's structural integrity. The living and dining areas have been thoughtfully expanded and transformed into open-plan spaces that facilitate family interaction and emotional connection, earning the project a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category for its innovative approach to residential interior architecture.
