Common Room Gastropub is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the contemporary interpretation of social dining spaces, masterfully executed to create a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere in Hong Kong's vibrant hospitality scene. This 2,750-square-foot establishment, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, seamlessly integrates elements of classic Parisian bistro aesthetics with modern industrial chic sensibilities. The design's centerpiece is a thoughtfully positioned communal table that serves as the heart of the space, embodying the fundamental concept of shared experiences and social interaction. The interior architecture incorporates carefully selected materials including reclaimed wood, stainless steel, bronze studs, and marble mosaic, creating a harmonious blend of textures and surfaces that enhance the overall ambiance. Notable design features include cast iron folic grills, ornamental ceiling panels, and a distinctive 31-foot-long mixology glass and cast iron liquor library that showcases the establishment's dedication to craft cocktails. The space is further enhanced by strategic booth seating arrangements designed to accommodate larger groups, while vintage decorative elements such as copper globes, rustic wood wheels, and black steel lanterns contribute to the authentic atmosphere. A series of typographic montages, inspired by signature cocktails and mounted in black wooden frames, adds an artistic dimension while highlighting the venue's mixology expertise. This award-winning design, completed in June 2013, successfully creates an environment that encourages social interaction while maintaining a sophisticated aesthetic, demonstrating excellence in spatial planning, material selection, and atmospheric design.
