Colorful Cloths Information Visualization is an innovative information design project that transforms complex data about China's textile industry into an accessible and visually engaging narrative format. This comprehensive visualization system, created by designer Lu Zhao, meticulously documents and presents the evolution of China's textile industry from its origins to its current state of prosperity. The project, which garnered a Silver A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, encompasses the analysis and presentation of nearly 100 different fabric types, incorporating 80 distinct textile varieties, 13 fiber composition forms, and more than 30 weaving methodologies. The visualization employs sophisticated graphic techniques to deconstruct and reorganize complex information hierarchies, making intricate data readily comprehensible to viewers. The design's distinctive approach combines traditional textile elements with modern information design principles, featuring a three-dimensional installation that incorporates actual fabric samples from various historical periods to enhance viewer engagement and understanding. This multifaceted presentation method effectively communicates both quantitative data, such as import-export statistics, and qualitative information about textile development, craftsmanship, and technological advancement. The project, completed between March and June 2021, represents a significant contribution to the field of information visualization, demonstrating how complex industrial and historical data can be transformed into an engaging, accessible format that serves both educational and archival purposes.
