Colored Finch Chair is an innovative furniture design that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of nature-inspired aesthetics and functional craftsmanship, created by designers Ke-Fei Zhang and Hui-Zi Zhang. This distinguished piece, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2021, draws its inspiration from the graceful form and essence of finches, translating their proud and free-spirited nature into a sophisticated seating solution. The chair's design seamlessly incorporates avian elements through its thoughtfully curved backrest, which appears straight from the front view while revealing elegant contours from the side, achieved through advanced double-layer curved wood construction based on precise Rhino modeling. Measuring 490mm in width, 550mm in depth, and 810mm in height, the chair demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in its construction, utilizing handmade multi-layer woods for the backrest and seat, while the legs feature metal tubes uniformly laminated with handmade fabrics, reflecting a commitment to environmental consciousness through minimized use of non-renewable materials. The development process involved sixteen prototype iterations, with extensive testing using medical dummies to optimize ergonomic comfort and functionality. Finalized in May 2020 and launched in October of the same year, the chair underwent rigorous manufacturing development to achieve its distinctive thin and light profile while maintaining structural integrity. The design successfully captures the spiritual atmosphere of nature within interior spaces, representing a remarkable achievement in furniture design that combines artistic vision with practical functionality.
