Cocoon Wine Rack is an innovative furniture design piece that harmoniously combines functionality with artistic expression, created by Austrian designer Moritz Proell in 2017. This sophisticated wine storage solution draws inspiration from the natural metamorphosis of butterflies, incorporating an abstracted infinity loop form crafted from solid oak that symbolizes the perpetual cycle of traditional wine production. The design's distinctive structure comprises a cubic concrete base that provides stability and creates a compelling interplay between mass and lightness, while forged steel bars support suspended leather compartments reminiscent of natural cocoons. These leather flaps, engineered to accommodate one to three wine bottles optimally with a maximum capacity of six bottles per compartment, create a protective sanctuary for wine storage that mirrors the protective function of butterfly cocoons in nature.
