Clyde Bruckman

Clyde Bruckman was not just a modernist American artist, but also a screenwriter and director in the early days of Hollywood. Born in 1894 in the state of Kansas, Bruckman began his career as a cartoonist before transitioning to film. He worked on several silent films as a writer and director, including the popular comedy series featuring Harold Lloyd. Bruckman's most notable contribution to film was his work on the classic comedy-horror film The General starring Buster Keaton. He co-wrote the screenplay and served as a gag writer, contributing to some of the film's most memorable scenes. Despite his success in Hollywood, Bruckman struggled with alcoholism and depression throughout his life. He tragically took his own life in 1955 at the age of 60. However, his contributions to the film industry and his impact on comedy cannot be understated. Bruckman's work helped shape the genre of slapstick comedy and his influence can still be seen in modern comedies today.
