club tao Restaurant and bar is an innovative hospitality design project located in Sector 26, Chandigarh, India, that masterfully integrates open and enclosed spaces to create a unique dining experience. The establishment, completed in December 2017, spans 300 square meters and accommodates 150 covers on a single level, featuring a distinctive architectural element in its extensive open courtyard with a motorized sliding roof system. This sophisticated mechanical roof, constructed using MS tubes, channels, and polycarbonate sheets, allows natural light to permeate the space while offering climate control flexibility. The design philosophy centers on the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, creating an atmospheric dining environment where light, rather than physical partitions, defines spatial boundaries. Notable design elements include an expansive mirror-clad bar that creates an illusion of increased space, juxtaposed against an oversized 70's-style television installation flanked by green wall plantations. The establishment's layout flows from an intimate foyer through a corridor that reveals glimpses of the lounge area, leading to varied seating arrangements including a private dining section elevated and demarcated by MS railings. The project, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design category in 2018, represents a significant innovation in restaurant design, particularly in its response to market oversaturation through the creation of a distinctive spatial experience. The design successfully overcomes challenges in maintaining the open-air ambiance while managing natural light control, utilizing simple yet elegant materials such as tiled flooring and cement-punnied walls to complement the sophisticated mechanical elements.
