Cloud Vacation Apartment is an innovative interior design project located in Yilan, Taiwan, that exemplifies sophisticated space optimization in compact living environments. This 40-square-meter loft-style vacation space demonstrates a masterful application of subtractive design principles, featuring a full interior height of 380 centimeters with a thoughtfully integrated mezzanine floor. The design's distinctive characteristics include permeable building materials, suspended stairs crafted from thin steel panels and pine plywood, and strategic use of curved shapes that create a harmonious connection between interior spaces and the natural environment. The apartment's structural ingenuity is evident in its lightweight staircase design, which serves as a visual axis and incorporates steel rope wrapped with twine for support. The space optimization extends to a cleverly conceived dressing room utilizing previously unused duct space, while the implementation of perforated materials throughout creates an enhanced sense of spatial flow and natural light penetration. The project, completed in January 2020, garnered recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its exceptional approach to small-space design. The apartment's sophisticated integration of functional elements with aesthetic considerations, including the use of simple lines and primary colors to conceal structural supports, demonstrates a remarkable achievement in contemporary residential interior design, particularly in the context of vacation accommodations.
