This distinctive design, created by Peruvian designer Mauricio Navarro, represents a harmonious fusion of nostalgia and contemporary craftsmanship, transforming an everyday object into an elegant desk accessory. Measuring 70 x 15 x 10 millimeters, each Clipstone Paperclip is meticulously handcrafted using stone carpentry techniques, featuring materials such as soap stone, ocre red, ocre yellow, turquoise blue, serpentine, and ecuatorian jade. The design emerged from a sustainable development initiative working with traditional stone artisans in Peru, addressing the challenge of preserving traditional craftsmanship while creating commercially viable products for a global market. The product's uniqueness lies in its ability to elevate a common office tool into a decorative piece that serves both functional and aesthetic purposes, with each piece showcasing the natural beauty of semi-precious gemstones through fine finishing. This innovative approach to office accessories earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition, receiving an Iron A' Design Award in the Art and Stationery Supplies Design category, acknowledging its contribution to preserving traditional craftsmanship while meeting contemporary design standards. The design supports sustainable artisanal practices in Peru, with a production capacity of 4,000 units per month, offering a scalable solution that maintains high-quality handcrafted standards while providing economic opportunities for traditional craftsmen.
